Cincinnati Bone Grafting and Dental Extraction Services

Bone Grafting

Some patients may have an interest in dental implants but may be lacking bone structure or have low sinus cavities.
With his extensive knowledge and experience, Dr. Bonomo can perform complex bone grafting and jaw restructuring surgeries. As a dental specialist, he is also able to perform sinus augmentation and lifting.

At Bonomo Periodontics, if you are lacking adequate bone structure to support dental implants, these are simple problems to fix.

Dental Extraction

A dental extraction is required when a tooth has become extensively decayed or damaged to make way for a replacement restoration. For this process, teeth may require surgical access to be removed and, in these instances, doctors will need to perform a surgical extraction.

What to expect during the surgical extraction procedure:

Surgical extraction involves your doctor numbing the affected area and then using hand instruments to clear a path in your soft tissue to ease the removal of the tooth.
Your doctor may have to remove boney obstructions or divide the tooth into smaller pieces to facilitate the extraction.

After removal, the doctor will clean the area and may suture the area closed as needed for healing. At this point, your doctor may fit you with a temporary tooth to wear in the meantime.
You and your doctor will work together to decide on treatment options to permanently replace the extracted tooth.

Dental extraction is necessary because if a damaged tooth is left in place and untreated it can lead to infection or decay below the gumline and then more procedures in the long run.

Post-Dental Extraction Procedure

After a dental extraction, it is common to experience some swelling and mild discomfort, which can be managed with cold compresses and over-the-counter pain relievers.

Dentists may also provide recommendations on diet modifications and temporary tooth replacement options to restore functionality and aesthetics while awaiting the final restoration.
